Ms. Hinton requested a moment of silence to honor the PBP fallen officers: Paul J. Sciullo, II, Eric G. Kelly and Stephen J. Mayhle; Pittinger reported on the status of Dr. Mary Jo Guercio’s second term appointment; Pittinger discussed City Council’s vote to allocate $85,000 to the PBP for the purchase of assault rifles for patrol vehicles; Pittinger reported on the results of former PBP Officer Paul Abel’s criminal nonjury trial that concluded on June 11, 2009. Mr. Abel was acquitted of all charges: aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and DUI; Pittinger discussed the issues surrounding the impending G-20 Summit, scheduled in Pittsburgh on September 24 & 25, 2009; Pittinger reported on receiving an anonymous letter involving a domestic violence incident where the PBP police failed to make a related warrant arrest; 13 cases were reviewed.
