Use of Force in the City of Pittsburgh: Initial Report, 2010 through 2015

July 1st, 2016

From Chief Cameron McLay’s introduction: “To begin to get a picture of use of force in Pittsburgh, I requested an analysis of summary statistics drawn from the thousands of reports filed by police officers over the past six years. This initial report provides the data we need to begin to understand the types of force police use; how often force is used; the reasons why force is used; and the type of incidents that result in injuries. It also begins to look at potential disproportionality in the use of force, an important issue that will require careful attention.”
